TAHLEQUAH – An
Addie Elbon 2 RBI double was enough for the RiverHawks to take down Washburn 3-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader.
Elbon went 2-for-3 at the plate with NSU starter
Gail Young (15-8) recording a complete game with five strikeouts.
The RiverHawks improve to 24-20 (12-7 MIAA) with the win over the Ichabods.
After leading the game off with a pair of walks,
Addie Elbon cleared the bases on a 0-2 pitch with a double to the left-center wall.
Alyssia Crick and
Madison Boyd both scored on the double to give NSU a 2-0 lead.
Washburn grabbed a run back in the second scoring a running in from first on a double that hit the center field fence.
The RiverHawks escaped a jam in the sixth with the Ichabods having runners on second and third with two outs. A pitchout caught a Washburn runner leaning too far to home and a quick throw from
Kyla Ibarra at catcher to third picked her off to end the inning.
Ibarra gifted NSU an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded on an infield hit to give them a 3-1 lead.
Washburn (22-21, 13-6 MIAA) out-hit the RiverHawks 6-to-4.
