KEARNEY, Neb. –
Madison Boyd collected her 200th career hit but Nebraska-Kearney would sweep the RiverHawks with a 2-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
Boyd is the first NSU softball player reach the 200 hit milestone and did it off an RBI double in the third inning.
However, for the RiverHawks it would be their lone run of the game to drop to 20-15 overall and 8-4 in the MIAA. They will return from their road trip going 1-3.
NSU missed a pair of opportunities to score runs and loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. The threat would end on a pop-up and strikeout. In the sixth, they had runners on second and third with two outs but the inning ended on a fly out to center.
The Lopers (10-16, 6-6 MIAA) broke the 1-1 tie in the fifth on a one-out double down the right-field line.
Boyd led the RiverHawks with a 2-for-3 game and an RBI.
Sydney Balderrama (7-7) tossed a complete game in the circle on 94 pitches.
The RiverHawks left eight runners on base and were out-hit by the Lopers 10-to-5.
Northeastern State returns home and will face Central Oklahoma this Saturday for an MIAA doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
