JOPLIN, Mo. ---- The road woes continued for Northeastern State as Missouri Southern took the final game of the series 11-1 in MIAA baseball action Warren Turner Field here Saturday.
NSU drops to 11-31 on the year and 8-19 in conference play.
The RiverHawks amassed only four hits on the afternoon,
Jaxon Phipps and
Alex Massie each doubled while
Wes O'Neill and
Colton Burgess each singled.
Northeastern State sent five different pitchers to the mound on the day, with
James Cowell getting the start. Cowell lasted 2.2 innings, giving up six runs on five hits.Â
Trevor Smith,
Brayden Boyd,
Shayne Warren and
Colt Browne also saw action.
Back to back hits from the RiverHawks to open the game set up Massie's sacrifice fly giving NSU the 1-0 lead.Â
Missouri Southern would match that production with two runs in the first inning, four in the third, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and one more in the seventh to capture the 11-1 victory.
Next action for the RiverHawks will be on Tuesday as it travels to Claremore to take on Rogers State before returning to host Emporia State in the final home series of the 2019 season.
