TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State closed out their home slate on a sour note falling 10-1 to Emporia State on Senior Day.
The Lady Hornets swept the MIAA doubleheader and drops the RiverHawks to 24-23 (12-10 MIAA).
In her final game at RiverHawks Park,
Madison Boyd went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Northeastern State was out-hit by Emporia 12-to-6.
The Lady Hornets loaded the bases with no outs in the opening inning and scored the first run on a walk; they added a second on a sac fly to left field.
Emporia State added an additional run in the third on a shallow fly ball to go up 3-0. The RiverHawks ended the frame gunning down a runner heading to third.
Northeastern State grabbed a run back on the Lady Hornets in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk with two outs.
After two scoreless innings, Emporia State sacked the RiverHawks with seven runs in the seventh. The Lady Hornets hit a pair homers in the frame to account for most of the damage.
Emporia State improves to 22-23 overall and 12-10 in the MIAA.
Gail Young (15-9) tossed a complete game and struck out two batters.
The RiverHawks return to action on Friday afternoon for a doubleheader at Pittsburg State.
