Game Recap: Softball |

RiverHawks walked off on twice at Pitt

PITTSBURG, Kan. ----- Haley Acrey belted her ninth home of the year but the RiverHawks could not overcome three errors as Pittsburg State took game one 2-1. Addie Elbon was 2-4 with a double and triple with two RBI as the Gorillas walked off game two 5-4 in 10 innings in MIAA softball action at the PSU Softball Complex.

NSU falls to 24-25 on the year and 12-12 in MIAA play.

Acrey gave the RiverHawks a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo blast over the left field wall.

Gail Young held the PSU bats in check through three innings, before allowing a leadoff home run to open the fourth inning that tied the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied heading to the seventh inning where the Gorillas took advantage of a single and a RiverHawks error to plate the winning run.
Young allowed one earned run and six hits falling 15-10 on the year.

After falling behind 1-0 in game two after the first inning, the NSU bats came alive in the second inning.  Acrey doubled and moved to third base on a PSU error.  Sierra Crick tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single.  Kyla Ibarra earned her way on base with an infield single and Crick scored later in the frame giving NSU a 2-1 lead.

The NSU lead grew to 3-1 in the third inning.  Madison Boyd singled and scored on an Elbon RBI double.

PSU cut the lead to 3-2 in the third with a solo home run.

The RiverHawks extended the lead back to two runs in the fifth inning.  Cameron Conrad led off with a single to left field and scored on Elbon's triple.

Pittsburg State rallied in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4- 4

Missed opportunities plagued the RiverHawks down the stretch.  Cameron Conrad doubled in the seventh, Alyssia Crick and Elbon was hit by pitches to load the bases with only one out.  Back to back strikeouts end the threat.

In extra innings, NSU had runners on second and third with one out only to come up empty again.

PSU ended the game in the 10th innings with a walk-off solo home run to win 5-4.

Sydney Balderrama started the marathon game in the circle, lasting 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out two.  Young came on in relief and pitched the final four innings.

Northeastern State will end the 2019 regular season with a doubleheader at Missouri Southern on Saturday.  Game one is slated to start at 12:00 pm.
