TOPEKA, Kan. –
Mayra Jovic knocked off the #3-ranked singles player in the nation but Northeastern State came up just short of upsetting #6-ranked Washburn, 4-3 on Friday afternoon.
The loss to the Ichabods halted a five-match winning streak for #44-ranked NSU as they fall to 7-7 overall and 5-2 in the MIAA.
Jovic moved to 30-0 in her singles regular season career and handed Washburn's Alexis Czapinski a three-set, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 loss in twos. Czapinski saw a 17 match-winning streak that spanned the spring championship season come to a halt.
#29-ranked
Tatjana Stoll closed out the match on the main court with 6-4, 7-6 (6-3) victory over #18-ranked Jacqueline Engelbrencht. Stoll has won her last ten matches and Friday's win is her fourth this season over a ranked opponent.
Betka Gombarova was NSU's third win of the afternoon in singles beating Logan Morrissey in threes 7-6 (6-3), 7-5.
Washburn (16-1, 6-0 MIAA) took the bottom three singles spots and edged the RiverHawks 2-1 for the doubles point.
Northeastern State closes out the regular season at home next weekend where they will face Central Oklahoma and Lindenwood.
