NSU rallies past Lady Bison in double overtime thriller

TAHLEQUAH — Northeastern State remains undefeated thanks to a double-overtime goal by Mariah Nicolet to give her squad a 3-2 comeback win over Harding on Saturday evening.

This was NSU's first double-overtime in over a season, and it matched the score of the last meeting between the two programs at Harding a year ago.

Harding (1-3) took advantage of a slow NSU start with goals in the 12th and 25th minute.  Paulina Chavez gave NSU momentum into the half with a goal from ten feet out in the final 90 seconds.

The RiverHawks were on the attack in the second half launching 14 shots at the Lady Bison keeper. Nicolet with just over five minutes to go picked up a pass from Emily Seiler to get an equalizer.  NSU would try to finish the game in regulation with Chavez and Nicolet making strikes in the final 15 seconds.

In the first overtime period, NSU struck only once with a shot on-goal with neither team applying too much offensive pressure. Things changed quickly in the final extra-time period with Nicolet slipping through the right side and finding the opening on the left side of the net in the second minute of the period.

Nicolet had six shots-on-goal with the RiverHawks out-shooting the Lady Bison 25-to-11.

At DeLoache Field, NSU is now 12-0-1 against the Lady Bison with the RiverHawks taking the last eight meetings.

The RiverHawks will be off until Sept. 20 where they will host rivals Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m.
