NSU drops two in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The opening day of the Drury Invitational would be one NSU would want to move past quickly after giving up seven runs in both games and falling 7-6 to William Jewell and being shutout by former MIAA member Southwest Baptist.

The Basics
Score: Northeastern State 6, William Jewell 7
Records: Northeastern State (10-4), William Jewell (4-5)
NSU Pitcher of Record: Gail Young (6-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Megan Green and Cat Rodman homered for the RiverHawks, but it was an error and a walk that led to a Cardinals grand slam in the third to put them ahead 6-4.

NSU got a run back in the bottom half of the third on an Addy Wolfe double. However, William Jewell would get an insurance run in the fourth, which would be enough to hold off the RiverHawks.

BEYOND THE BOX
- Green hit her first homer of the season and had a pair of hits.
-Gail Young gave up an earned run in the first to end her 33+ straight frames without giving up an earned run.

The Basics
Score: Northeastern State 0, Southwest Baptist 7
Records: Northeastern State (10-5), Southwest Baptist (2-11)
NSU Pitcher of Record: Sydney Balderrama (2-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Defensive miscues paired with only getting four hits hindered the RiverHawks from getting any momentum. SBU grabbed a run in the opening frame off an error and then three more in the third.
The Bearcats went up six getting a run on a double and ground out. SBU's seventh run came on a two-out double.

 BEYOND THE BOX
- This is the second time NSU was shutout this season.
- Cameron Conrad hit a single to extend her hitting streak to nine.

Up Next: The RiverHawks will be back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. to face Drury, and then they will get another shot at Southwest Baptist in the nightcap.
