WICHITA, Kan. – The RiverHawks suffered an uneven day in their first MIAA visit to Newman Saturday. Northeastern State capitalized on six errors by the Jets to blast past them 11-0 in the opener. In the nightcap, Jess Schuler homered twice, but NSU fell 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a hit-by-pitch and a single, Sierra Crick hit a single through the left side to score Addie Elbon in from second
Hannah Ailey opened a four-run fourth for the RiverHawks with her first homer of the season. A double and error put two on for Megan Green, who hit an RBI single up the middle for their second run. The RiverHawks added a third off an error, and Alyssia Crick singled in Green to make it a 5-0 ballgame.
In the sixth, NSU plated two runs off a pair of Newman errors to go up by seven.
The RiverHawks hung up another four runs in the seventh with the team batting through the order for four hits. A Green two-RBI triple highlighted the inning with the junior grabbing her fourth hit of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Green is the first NSU player to have a four-hit game this season and first shortstop since Alyssa Aguilar in 2014 to have four hits in a game.
- Five NSU batters had a multi-hit game.
- Jaeden Rosenquist had two doubles.
- Gail Young tossed her tenth career shutout and stuck out seven Newman batters.
- Jess Schuler became the fifth NSU batter to cross 100 career RBI with two in the first game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a scoreless first, the Jets took advantage of a two-out error, and the next batter plated a pair on a double.
In the fourth, Schuler blasted her first of two homers of the game to start the inning. Sierra Crick evened NSU with the Jets scoring a run on an infield double-play.
Newman pulled ahead for the final time in the fifth after opening the frame with a double and single. A fielder's choice gave them the go-ahead run and a two-out single was enough insurance for the Jets.
Schuler put NSU within one with a leadoff homer in the sixth. In the final three outs, the RiverHawks managed to get the go-ahead run on to start the inning. However, they left those runners on base with three straight outs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Third career multi-homer game for Schuler.
- Sydney Balderrama started the game and went five innings.
- Sierra Crick saw her reached base streak halted at 19 games. It was the longest since the 2008 season.
