TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- RiverHawks women's basketball is looking to finish off a short home stretch to the NSU Event Center with a win hosting Newman Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Opening tip
• Northeastern State is looking to stop a six-game skid after winning its first two games. Both NSU victories have come at home.
• Newman scores the fewest points per game while allowing the third-fewest. Northeastern State scores the eighth-most and allows the third most.
• Both teams have yet to find their 3-point stroke this season.
• Rebounding has been an uphill battle for NSU thus far in 2020-21 as it ranks 13th in the MIAA.
• The RiverHawks continue to force turnovers and the margin of 2.00 ranks third. • The Jets and RiverHawks have played the same teams in their previous three contests, and both went 0-3.
• NSU scores four more points off turnovers, which could prove to be key in a closely contested game.
• Northeastern State is operating at 25 percent fan capacity due to COVID-19 precautions.
• Saturday's game is one of five women's contests taking place around the MIAA.
• NSU will hit the road for the next two weeks before returning home to host Pitt State and Missouri Southern to close out the month.

The series with Newman
• As members of the MIAA the teams have split their two meetings. NSU leads all-time with a 2-1 record by winning on March 9, 2012.
• The RiverHawks have the lowest average scoring against Newman of any team they are scheduled to play this season.

Jets notes
• Newman scores the fewest points per game in the MIAA shooting 32.7 percent from the field.
• The Jets shoot 80.0 percent at the charity stripe but have the fourth-fewest attempts. Opponents, interestingly, only convert at a 67.0 clip
• In their last game, the Jets fell to Central Oklahoma 61-57 and were led by Brooke Haney with 19 points. It was the highest-scoring output of the season for them.
• Haney leads Newman with 13.6 points and is joined in double-digit scoring by Faith Mason-Vestel (10.0 ppg).
• Only one player, Madison Birnbaum (5.7), averages over five rebounds per game.
• Newman had its game scheduled for Thursday at Rogers State postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests.
• This is the first game in 20 days for the Jets.
Looking back
• The RiverHawks were cold shooting-wise in their return to Tahlequah after 40 days on the road falling to Central Oklahoma 71-44.
• Northeastern State struggled to contain UCOs Kelsey Johnson allowing a 22-point, 12-rebound performance.

Glancing ahead
• NSU is 5-2 all-time versus the Rogers State Hillcats whom they will visit on January 16. Heading into Saturday's games both teams find themselves at the bottom of the MIAA standings.
