RiverHawks controls second half in home win over Lopers

TAHLEQUAH -- Callie Rucker had two goals as the RiverHawks air-raided Nebraska-Kearney with a program-record 48 shots en-route to a 3-0 win Friday night.

Northeastern State surpassed its previous mark by three, set on Sept. 12, 2019, against Southern Nazarene in Tahlequah.

Friday's win is the third consecutive for the RiverHawks as they improve to 7-5-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the MIAA and remain in sixth place in the league standings.

Myka Heimbach gave NSU an early 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on a pass from Livy Wagner.

The RiverHawks controlled the second half owning the shot total 30-to-1.  Rucker landed an unassisted goal in the 51st minute and had her second of the night in the 76th on a pass from Hayley Garcia.

Heimbach had 13 shot attempts, the most in a game since Mariah Nicolet who had 11 against Rogers State on Nov. 1, 2019.

Rucker brought her season goal count to six, and Heimbach now has three on the season.

Ainsley Cunningham made her first appearance since Sept. 19, 2021, and had three saves and her second shutout.

The Lopers (2-13, 1-7 MIAA) were limited to six shots and did not make a corner kick.

Northeastern State returns to action Sunday to host Fort Hays State for senior day at 1 p.m.
