CLAREMORE -- Northeastern State suffered a late-season 2-0 road setback Friday at the hands of Rogers State.
The Hillcats (9-7-1, 4-6 MIAA) would score both of their goals in the final five minutes of action to keep their MIAA postseason hopes alive. On the other hand, Northeastern State will need a win Sunday at Newman to assure themselves a ticket to the MIAA Tournament.
With 13 points, the RiverHawks are just one point ahead of Fort Hays State and Rogers State, tied for eighth place.
The top-eight will advance to the MIAA Tournament, with the top-four finishing teams hosting the first round. Friday's loss will put the RiverHawks on the road should they qualify.
The RiverHawks were limited to seven shots, their second-lowest total of the season, with the Hillcats having 15. On corners, NSU had a 5-to-2 edge over the Hillcats.
Callie Rucker and
Livy Wagner had two shots to lead NSU. The RiverHawks were limited to four bench players seeing action with six players playing the full 90 minutes.
Friday's loss drops NSU to 7-7-3 overall (4-5-1 MIAA) and will head to Wichita for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Newman in the regular-season finale.
