WICHITA, Kan. -- Northeastern State is heading to the MIAA Tournament thanks to a second-half goal from
Leonie Machauer to give the RiverHawks a 1-0 win over Newman Sunday afternoon.
The tournament berth is the ninth consecutive for the RiverHawks as they will be the #7-seed and will travel to play #2-seed Emporia State on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m.
Machauer broke a scoreless game in the 73rd minute on a cross pass from
Whitney Gentry. The goal was her first of the season and career.
NSU (8-7-3, 5-5-1 MIAA) had a slight 8-to-7 edge in shots and a 5-to-0 advantage on corners.
Myka Heimbach led the RiverHawks with three shots, with seven from their starting 11 going the full 90 minutes.
Ainsley Cunningham had six saves for her third shutout on the season.
Newman closes out their season 1-13-2 (1-9-1 MIAA).
