Jason Rivera hit his third game-winner of the season as Northeastern State shutout Newman 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
The victory over the Jets carries the RiverHawks to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in GAC/MIAA play.
Rivera's sixth goal of the season came in the first minute of the second half on a far pass from
Luan Lamas. The freshman bicycled kicked the ball past the diving Newman keeper on the left side of the goal.
Northeastern State took 23 shots, the second most of this season and the highest total in conference play. The RiverHawks had a 7-to-3 advantage on corners over the Jets (0-9-1, 0-4-1 GAC/MIAA), who was limited to 11 shots. Â
Niklas Kirhoff had his fifth shutout of the season with a season-high six saves at goal.
The RiverHawks will be off until Saturday, where they will travel to Bethany to face Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m.
