PRYOR -- Northeastern State battled back from a seven-run deficit but fell, 17-13, in ten innings to Newman Friday afternoon.
There were a combined 35 hits from batters in a contest that lasted over four hours on Pryor High School's turf field.
The win prevented a series sweep by the RiverHawks, who took the doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
Northeastern State sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth, with
Michael Conn tying the game at 12-12 with a three-run homer to right center.
Newman (2-6, 1-5 MIAA) pulled back ahead in the seventh and held the lead until they got the RiverHawks to their final out in the ninth.
Blaze Brothers led the inning off with a single and stole second to get into scoring position. Following a pair of fly outs
Blake Freeman tied the game with a single to left. NSU would have an opportunity to win the game and managed to load the bases. However, they would fly out to end the inning.
In the tenth, Newman did their damage after a two-out hit-by-pitch. A Jets batter hit an RBI double and then added two more on a homer and the fourth run on an error.
Brothers, Conn, and
Collin Klingensmith all had three-hits.
Brayden Rodden homered for the fourth time in the series and had a four-RBI game.
The RiverHawks (8-3, 6-3 MIAA) used six pitchers, with
Dakodah Jones (0-1) charged with the loss.
Northeastern State will have a week break before heading to Washburn Friday for a three-game series in Topeka.
