RiverHawks drop opener to Northwest, 6-3

TAHLEQUAH -- Cameron Conrad and Megan Green both homered as the RiverHawks fell 6-3 to Northwest Missouri Friday afternoon.

Northeastern State (14-9, 2-3 MIAA) was outhit 12-to-7 to the Bearcats (7-6), who opened MIAA play against the RiverHawks.

After getting sat down in order through the first three innings, Northwest hit three straight singles, and a bloop single to right scored two runners.  The Bearcats added their third run, a two-out single to right-center to take a 3-0 advantage.

Conrad put NSU on the board to lead off the fourth with a full-count homer to right field for her second long ball of the season.

Northwest added a run in the sixth after an outfield fielding error moved runners to second and third.  As a result, the Bearcats' fourth run came on a sac fly to right field.

With two outs in the seventh, the Bearcats two a double to the center field wall, and their next batter hit a homer to left-center to give them a five-run lead.

In the seventh, Green cut into the NWMSU lead in the seventh with a two-run homer to center for her first home run since Feb. 28, 2020, and second career shot at NSU.

Green and Cat Rodman both had two-hit games for the RiverHawks.

Gail Young (10-4) spun a complete game with five strikeouts and five earned runs given up.
