RiverHawks fall to Griffons late, 4-1

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State dropped the second game of the doubleheader, a pitcher's duel, to Missouri Western 4-1. Chloe Bohuslavicky's solo shot nearly stood the test of time for NSU (16-10, 4-4 in MIAA), but MWSU (16-6, 5-1 in MIAA) rallied late scoring all four of its runs in the top of the seventh.

The RiverHawks' starter, Jenna Chassie, cruised through the first three frames before having to escape a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fourth. After hitting two batters in a row in the frame, she struck out the batter looking to bring the RiverHawks to bat.

Bohuslavicky broke the tie in the bottom half by clobbering a no-doubt home run over the left field fence on the first pitch she saw.

In the sixth, Chassie was once again tasked with escaping a bases-load situation after Missouri Western reached on two fielder's choices. She got the same batter as the first go around to ground out to second.

Chassie couldn't quite navigate through her seventh inning holding a 1-0 lead allowing four runs to cross in the top of the final frame. The Griffons used a lead off single followed by a double and hit by pitch to load the bases. Their three-hole hitter reached on a fielder's choice to tie the game before the next two batters singled.

Bohuslavicky was the lone RiverHawk to have a multi-hit game and NSU only got five base knocks against the Missouri Western pitcher who went the distance. Chassie struck out six in the game.

"Hats off to their kid, she really kept us off-balance with that changeup. It took us a long time to make the adjustment," head coach Clay Davis said. "We just kind of let one slip away there in the seventh."

The RiverHawks now head out on the road for back-to-back weekends. They play at Central Missouri Friday with the first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m.
