Wagner wins it for NSU in 106th minute

TAHLEQUAH – Livy Wagner took a Hayley Garcia header in the 106th minute and put it through the bottom left of the net for a 1-0 RiverHawk win Sunday afternoon at Gable Field.

With the victory, NSU moves to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in MIAA spring matches. Newman drops to 1-5-2 (0-4 in MIAA) with the loss.

The RiverHawks dominated the first half with seven shots, two of which being on goal, and the defense did not allow the Jets an opportunity.

Hannah Stettler had both shots on goal with her first on a breakaway in the 10th minute. The Newman goaltender was aggressive and grabbed the kick with a forward dive.

In the second half Newman played more aggressively on offense and six shots to Northeastern State's two. Melanie Rice made four saves in the half to keep it tied 0-0.

Garcia had a chance amidst a crowd in front of the net in the 87th minute that wouldn't go. Newman had tied twice already this spring but overtime came first.

Myka Heimbach had the lone shot in the first overtime and had three in the game to tie for the NSU lead. The RiverHawks held a 4-1 corner kick advantage and had 14 shots for the match.

It was NSU's first overtime victory of the spring and first double overtime victory since 2017. The RiverHawks have now won the last four against the Jets.

Northeastern State plays its final weekend of spring regular season action next weekend. It will meet Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo., Friday at 4 p.m. before a 1 p.m. kickoff with Central Oklahoma at Doc Wadley Stadium Sunday.
