NSU unable to comeback from early deficit at Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. — Fort Hays State scored four runs in the opening inning and never looked back to beat the RiverHawks 5-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Northeastern State matched Fort Hays State on the hit column with nine with three batters having a multi-hit game.

The Tigers struck early and tagged the RiverHawks for four runs in the opening inning.  Cat Rodman would plate a run back in the second, scoring Carly Kelley in from third on a fielder's choice.

In the third, NSU drew a pair of walks, and a double from Addy Wolfe loaded the bases with two outs.  However, they would leave the inning empty-handed.

Fort Hays (21-18, 14-7 MIAA) extended their lead in the fifth, scoring a run on a two-out single.  Addie Elbon scored two runs on a two-out single in the next frame to get NSU within two of the Tigers.
