RiverHawks sweep Blue Tigers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. —  Northeastern State scored eight runs in both games and swept Lincoln in a five-inning shutout and 8-4 in the nightcap Saturday.

With the wins, the RiverHawks finished the week 3-1 overall on the road and moved to 19-11 overall and 7-5 in the MIAA.

Alyssia Crick hit her tenth homer of the season in the second as the RiverHawks took advantage of Lincoln's errors in the opener.   Leading 4-0 in the fourth, NSU sent eight up to the plate to score four more runs.  Carly Kelley opened the inning off with a triple and later scored on a passed ball.  Addie Elbon and Cameron Conrad both also had RBI singles in the scoring outburst.

Gail Young spun a two-hit shutout and stuck out three to move to 13-4 in the circle.

In the nightcap, NSU needed some late-inning work and trailed 4-2 into the sixth.  Kelley hit a game-tying two-RBI double to right-center, and Megan Green hit the go-ahead run on a single through the left side.

The RiverHawks added insurance runs in the seventh, with Kelley hitting an RBI sac fly and Cat Rodman smacking an RBI infield single.  Crick scored NSU's eighth run and third of the inning on an error.

Kelly had a four-RBI game at the plate, and Addy Wolfe went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Crick never recorded an official at-bat and walked in her three plate appearances.

Sydney Balderrama (2-2) pitched the final five innings to earn the win in relief.

Lincoln drops to 4-21 overall and 2-12 in the MIAA with losses.

Northeastern State will head next to Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State for a Friday-Saturday MIAA road-trip.
