NSU falls late to Washburn, 3-2

TAHLEQUAH -- Washburn plated two runs in the final inning to rally past Northeastern State 3-2 to split Friday's doubleheader at RiverHawks Park.

NSU won the first game 4-1 and will see their record go to 22-19-1 overall and 10-13-1 in the MIAA.

The RiverHawks were limited to five hits, with Chloe Bohuslavicky scoring both of NSU's runs.

Washburn struck first in the opening frame, plating a run on a two-out single to right field. Bohuslavicky gave the RiverHawks the lead in the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle scoring Cameron Conrad and Addie Elbon on the play.

After five scoreless innings, Washburn opened the seventh with a lead-off single.  A bunt down the first baseline and a throwing error allowed runners to go on the corners.  Washburn advanced their runner at first to second on a stolen base to put both in scoring position.  The Ichabods tied the game on a ground out and got the eventual winning run on a sac fly.

Jenna Chassie allowed one run in six innings, Gail Young (14-10) was charged with the loss after coming in to start the seventh in a save situation.

Northeastern State closes out its home slate Saturday with a doubleheader at noon against Emporia State.  The 2020 and 2021 seniors will be honored following the second game.
