RiverHawks down Washburn 4-1

TAHLEQUAH -- Gail Young limited Washburn to five hits as the RiverHawks downed the Ichabods 4-1 Friday in the first game of a doubleheader.

The win moved Young to 59 in her career and is now one-off from matching the program record.

Northeastern State improved to 22-18-1 overall and 10-12-1 in the MIAA.

Cat Rodman had two of NSU's five hits and an RBI.  Alyssia Crick hit her fifth double of the season and had two RBI in the win.

A lead-off walk and a passed ball allowed NSU to score on a Carly Kelley sac fly, bringing Addy Wolfe in from third.

The RiverHawks added to their lead in the fourth, with Crick scoring two on a double to right-center.  Rodman later gave NSU a 4-0 lead with an RBI single down the left-field line.

Washburn (25-13, 11-10 MIAA) would load the bases in the fifth with one out but could only plate a run on a fielder's choice ground ball to second base.

Young would strike out seven Washburn batters on 135 pitches.
