CLAREMORE – Northeastern State tallied twice in the second half and held off Rogers State's late push to grab its first win of the spring on the road.
Â
After Rogers State nearly took possession 30 yards away from their net on the sideline
Sara Arundell crossed the ball into
Myka Heimbach who had beaten two RSU defenders to tap the ball into the net. The 64th minute score broke the 0-0 deadlock.
Â
In the 83rd minute,
Livy Wagner won a battle in a similar spot and broke towards the box which drew two Hillcat defenders. She quickly passed off the ball to
Callie Rucker in front of the net who slipped a shot into the lower left corner of the net.
Â
RSU quickly responded within five seconds on a drive down the middle of the pitch that was just out of goaltender
Melanie Rice's reach as she stepped up to challenge.
Â
After just two of NSU's shots were on goal in the first half they fired in six in the final 45 minutes. Both Rucker and Heimbach had two apiece for the match.
Â
With the win NSU improves to 1-2 (1-1 in MIAA) and RSU falls to 4-2 (1-1 in MIAA).
Â
Northeastern State is back in Tahlequah Sunday to host Newman at 1 p.m. on the Doc Wadley Stadium turf.
