Scarth's Hat-Trick leads RiverHawks to 7-1 win over Saint Martin's

LUBBOCK, Texas -- With a new starting lineup, Northeastern State found its offensive swagger Thursday, throttling Saint Martin's 7-1 in a non-conference contest hosted by Lubbock Christian University.

Northeastern State surpassed its early-season team goal total by four, with Sam Scarth netting his first hat trick and 30th for the program.  Jason Rivera scored twice against the Saints for both of their first career multi-goal outings.

Scarth got NSU on the board in the 30th minute, and it opened up a six-minute stretch for the RiverHawks to put the Saints away early.  Luan Lamas scored in the 33rd minute, and Rivera found the net on a pass from Scarth in the 36th minute.

Up 3-0 in the second half, Rivera scored in the 49th minute, and Scarth scored for the second time less than three minutes later on a pass from Flynn Semmerling

Saint Martin's (1-4) scored their lone goal in the 87th minute before Scarth netted his third goal in the final 90 seconds.  Semmerling beat out the buzzer and landed his 27th career goal.

The win snapped a three-match skid for NSU and sent them to 2-3 overall, and the seven goals in a match are tied for fifth-most in program history.  Semmerling had three assists, tied for third most in a match at NSU, and the first since 2016.

Northeastern State returns to LCU pitch Saturday facing UC-Colorado Springs at 8 p.m., the match time was changed due to COVID-related issues with the Lubbock Christian men's soccer program not being able to play matches this week.
