Bulldogs cool RiverHawks in opener, 3-1

WEATHERFORD -- Two second-half goals by Southwestern Oklahoma cooled a hot start for the RiverHawks Thursday as the Bulldogs downed NSU 3-1 in both teams' season opener in Weatherford.

The match was NSU's first official contest since 2019 and the first meeting between the two programs since 2011.

In her NSU debut, Payton Lieb scored the RiverHawks' lone goal in the fifth minute of the contest.

Southwestern got an equalizer in the 31st minute and pulled ahead in the tenth minute of the second half. The Bulldogs iced the match in the 60th minute with their third goal. 

Northeastern State had a 20-to-14 edge in shots and 11 attacks at the goal, with SWOSU's keeper stopping ten.  Lieb paced the RiverHawks' attack with seven shots and two shots on goal.  Freshman Lauren Parton played 61 minutes and had two shots on goal. 

The RiverHawks return home to host Ouachita Baptist for a non-conference tilt Sunday at 1 p.m.
