HAYS, Kan. – No. 24 Fort Hays State knocked in a go-ahead goal in the final two minutes to hand No. 16 Northeastern State a 2-1 setback Saturday afternoon.
The loss is the first for the RiverHawks in conference play as they drop to 5-2-2 (3-1-1 GAC/MIAA).
Miguel Torres gave NSU the early advantage with his second goal of the season in the 12th minute. The lead was short-lived, and Fort Hays State found an equalizer two minutes later.
Northeastern State out-shot the Tigers 12-to-6 in the second half, but it was a throw-in header by Fort Hays State near the RiverHawks' goal that would be the match winner.
Flynn Semmerling was credited with an assist and had five shots on goal.
With the win Saturday, Fort Hays State moves to 7-2-3 (5-0-1 GAC/MIAA). The RiverHawks return home to host Ouachita Baptist Thursday at 7 p.m.
