Late rally falls short for RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH – Second-half defensive miscues proved to be too much to overcome for Northeastern State in a 2-1 setback to No. 4 Central Missouri Sunday.

The RiverHawks played the Jennies scoreless for over 47 minutes until a misplayed kick on the back line allowed UCM to score.

Central Missouri added to their lead in the 77th minute off another defensive breakdown from the RiverHawks.

Payton Lieb gave NSU a fighting chance for a draw in the final ten minutes when she scored her fourth goal of the season off a high bounce from Eileen Jeschke

The RiverHawks had three attempts at an equalizer in the remaining time as they out-shot UCM 13-to-10 and had corner kicks in NSU's favor 3-to-1.

Lieb's goal broke a three-match scoreless streak for UCM as they move to 11-0-1 (5-0 MIAA).

Northeastern State drops to 4-2-6 (1-2-2 MIAA) and will play the next four matches on the road, starting with a visit for Fort Hays State Friday at 7 p.m.
