TAHLEQUAH – The RiverHawks set a season scoring high as they ambushed Newman in a 4-nil shutout Friday evening at DeLoache Field.
Northeastern State out-shot Newman 23-to-2, with the Jets being held without an attempt for the final 66 minutes.
Payton Lieb landed her fifth goal of the season in the 16th minute, and
Fran Badillo added a second on a 20-yard shot in the 44th minute.
Lauren Parton had her first goal of the year in the 65th minute, and
Alexis Rodgers scored her second season goal in the 75th minute when the Newman keeper misplayed the shot attempt. Badillo would be credited with the assist on Rodgers' goal.
Rebecca Partyka earned her fourth shutout of the year and had one save.
Newman drops to 1-15-1 (1-9 MIAA) and suffered their fourth consecutive setback in Tahlequah.
Thursday's win moved the RiverHawks to 6-3-8 (3-3-4 MIAA) and kept them ahead of Rogers State for the final postseason transfer spot. Northeastern State would also move up to seventh in the MIAA standings with Missouri Western losing to Central Missouri.
A win in Sunday's showdown with Rogers State will assure NSU a postseason berth for the tenth consecutive season. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., with Senior Day starting 15 minutes before the match.
