TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State sent 14 batters up the plate and used an eight-run seventh to beat McKendree 10-6 Sunday afternoon for a series win over the Bearcats.
Brock Reller tied the game for NSU with one swing of the bat with the bases loaded for his sixth homer of the season. The senior would later break the single-season NCAA era record for triples in a season in the eighth with his fifth, all in the last five games.
Nine of the RiverHawks' 13 hits came in the seventh as their bats were deathly quiet for six innings. One of NSU's two hits before that big inning came off the bat of a solo homer from
Matt Kaiser in the fifth.
After the Reller triple in the eighth,
Brayden Rodden hit a single through the left side for an insurance run.
Four NSU batters had multi-hit games,
C.D. White pushed his hitting streak to 12, while
Blake Freeman has a ten-game streak.
Cal Howard won the game in relief, going four innings and striking out two.
The RiverHawks improve to 9-3 on the year and opens MIAA play this Friday at Emporia State.
