ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
Carly Kelley hit a bases-clearing double as the RiverHawks staged a sixth-inning rally to beat Arkansas Monticello 7-6 Saturday evening.
The RiverHawks scattered eight hits, with
Alyssia Crick smashing a homer and having a 2-for-3 game.
Rhomie Bradshaw hit a lead-off homer, and Addie Wolfe had a single in her only official at-bat while drawing a pair of walks.
Up 3-2 in the fourth, the RiverHawks would open the inning with a pair of fielding errors that led to a tying run on a passed ball. The Cotton Blossoms grabbed the go-ahead run on a two-out solo homer to right field. An inning later, a lead-off single allowed UAM to extend their lead out to 5-3 on NSU.
Three straight one-out singles loaded the bases for NSU in the sixth, and Kelley hit a 0-2 pitch to right-center to put the team up 6-5.
Jaeden Rosenquist added to NSU's lead with an infield RBI out, scoring Kelley in.
Arkansas Monticello (1-1) threatened in the final frame, and after lead-off walk, they plated a run on a double to left with two outs. However, the rally would be quickly quashed with ground out.
Jenna Chassie started the game and struck out six in three innings. True-freshman
Madison Heinle punched out three batters for her first career win.
Northeastern State (2-0) will close out its weekend on Sunday with two games starting at 11 a.m. with Ouachita Baptist.
