CLAREMORE — A pair of two-run homers by Rogers State handed the RiverHawks a 6-2 loss Thursday afternoon in their MIAA opener.
Addy Wolfe had two of NSU's five hits and her fourth homer of the year.
Rogers State struck first with a one-out triple, leading to an RBI single. Wolfe matched the Hillcats with one swing on the bat hitting a homer that just cleared the centerfield wall.
The Hillcats (19-2, 1-0 MIAA) snuck a run back on a double-steal with two outs. The runner advancing to second would be tagged out but not before RSU plated a run.
NSU (12-10, 0-1 MIAA) hit back-to-back singles before
Sydney Balderrama smashed her fourth double of the year to right-center to tie the game at 2-2. The scoring continued and RSU splashed a two-out, two-run homer to left to re-take the lead. They would plate two more in the fourth on a homer to center.
The scoring was halted by both teams the rest of the way as NSU would go hitless and only have one batter reach.
Gail Young (5-3) went 5 1/3 innings and struck out two batters.
