MARYVILLE, Mo. –
Brayden Rodden's leadoff double in the 15th inning led to a 7-5 win for Northeastern State Monday afternoon at Northwest Missouri and avoided a series sweep.
The 15 inning marathon is the longest for NSU since 2008 when they went 16 deep in their season finale against Central Oklahoma.
Rodden had three of the RiverHawks' 12 hits as they improved to 18-11 (8-8 MIAA).
Northeastern State trailed until the eighth inning, where they plated four runs to tie the game.
Blake Freeman hit a leadoff homer to start the frame. Following a pair of walks, the RiverHawks got back-to-back RBI singles.
Blaze Brothers recorded the tying run on a ground ball out.
The game would go six extra innings to settle out. Following Rodden's double to start the 15th, Brothers beat out the throw on a bunt single to put runners on the corners. NSU got the go-ahead run on an error, and an insurance run on a wild pitch.
Jake Bigham (2-1) allowed just one hit in 6.1 innings out of the bullpen for the win.
Northeastern State will return home Tuesday to host Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
