WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Northeastern State outhit Central Missouri but couldn't nail down a timely hit leaving eight runners on-base in a 6-1 loss Friday.
The win for the Mules gives them the series over NSU, who lost consecutive games for just the second time this season, holding a 13-5 (3-2 MIAA) record.
Collin Klingensmith brought in his 14th run of the season in the second inning to give the RiverHawks the early lead. The Mules got the run back in the bottom frame on a sac fly.
Central Missouri (10-3, 5-0 MIAA) added two more after a leadoff walk in the fourth; their second batter of the frame splashed a homer to left field.
NSU left a runner in scoring position in the fifth and sixth, but a critical turning point was in the seventh, where they spoiled an opportunity with the bases loaded.
UCM picked up three insurance runs in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 6-1.
Seth Key (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going five innings and allowing two earned runs.
The RiverHawks committed a season-high four errors, with half of UCM's runs being unearned.
Blake Freeman and
Kademon Graff had two-hit games for the RiverHawks.
Northeastern State will look to prevent a series sweep Saturday with the first pitch at 11 a.m.
