TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State won the doubles point, but singles wouldn't fall their direction Friday in a 4-3 loss to Emporia State.
The RiverHawks clung to hopes for a win late with a pair of second set tiebreakers on courts three and six. Northeastern State needed to take both but would only get one to drop to 4-8 overall (0-2 MIAA).
Melissa Vera and
Chiara Carnelutti clinched the doubles point for the RiverHawks with a 6-4 win on court three.
Vera Carvalho won 6-2, 6-4 on court two in singles, and
Kristela Vidnere edged a pair of set wins 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) on court six.
Carnelutti rallied from a 3-0 deficit in her second set but would be the clinching point for the Hornets 6-3, 7-6 (6) on court three.
Emporia State improves to 4-5 (1-1 MIAA) with the win over NSU.
The RiverHawks will return to the court Saturday to host Newman at 2 p.m.
