TOPEKA, Kan. – Northeastern State had a pair of first-set wins, but Washburn would sweep the RiverHawks 7-0 Saturday in MIAA play.
The setback drops the team to 5-13 overall (1-6 MIAA), with one match remaining in the regular season.
Alisha Moldakhmetova claimed a 6-3 win in her first set but her Washburn counterpart won No. 1 singles by taking sets two and three 6-1, 6-2.
Vera Carvalho controlled her match early with a 6-1 win, but she would fall 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.
Washburn improves to 12-9 overall and is now 7-0 in the MIAA with the win for NSU Saturday.
Northeastern State will travel to Northwest Missouri Sunday for an 11 a.m. first serve in Maryville.
