MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northeastern State took a pair of singles matches but closed out its regular season with a 5-2 setback at No. 42 Northwest Missouri Sunday.
Vera Carvalho won her 25th career singles match at NSU with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court two.
Belinda Jayaprakash swept her first set and edged out a 7-5 win in the second for the win on 4s.
Northwest (15-8, 5-3 MIAA) took doubles, claimed courts six and five, and won on three to clinch the match before NSU could take a point.
"Pretty pleased with how we competed today," said head coach
Tim McLane. "That was maybe the craziest weather I've ever coached in, with how bad the wind was, but I thought we did a nice job of being scrappy and finding creative ways to keep ourselves in the matches. Real good job from Vera and Belinda picking up points in tough conditions."
"Now we've got a few days to get ready for our last shot of the season at the tournament."
The RiverHawks will enter the MIAA tournament as the No. 8 seed, with the match scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. on the Edmond Center Court in Edmond, Okla.
Central Oklahoma claimed the MIAA Regular season title and its top seed in the tournament.
The pair have met twice previously in the MIAA Tournament, with the RiverHawks winning. 2018 was the most recent contest, with NSU beating Central in the Tournament Finals.
Northeastern State concluded its regular season with a 5-14 mark and 1-7 in the MIAA.
