Vera Carvalho won her seventh singles match of the year, but Northeastern State fell 5-2 in a shorthanded road loss to Southeastern Oklahoma Thursday.
The RiverHawks vacated its six singles spot and third doubles team to give them a razor-thin margin to play with.
NSU lost 6-1 on both courts in doubles to give SE the early 1-0 advantage.
Down 5-2 in her first set,
Kristela Vidnere won her match when her opponent dropped out of the contest and retired.
Southeastern (12-5) would win on courts five and then four to clinch the match win.
Carvalho rallied from dropping her first set 6-2, won by the same score in the second set, and then 10-7.
The RiverHawks fall to 4-10 overall with the loss; they will play at Missouri Western Sunday.
