ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
Sydney Taylor scored a goal for the RiverHawks in the 50th minute to give NSU a season-opening 1-nil win at Ouachita Baptist Thursday afternoon.
The win is the eighth shutout over Ouachita (0-1) and the 12th consecutive over a team voted to finish runner-up in its conference this season.
Northeastern State (1-0) had the early 11-8 attacking edge over the Tigers and at the intermission.
Payton Lieb had a shot go high right in the opening minute, and
Hannah Stettler had a ball blocked in the seventh minute.
Taylor broke the scoreless contest in the 50th minute off a midfield pass from
Hayley Garcia. The freshman from Wagoner worked past the OBU defender while inside the box and landed a goal right of the Tigers' goalkeeper.
The RiverHawks controlled the attack with 21-to-15 OBU shots, and corners favored Northeastern State 9-nil. Taylor had five shots,
Myka Heimbach and Lieb both had three.
Ainsley Cunningham had a pair of saves in her sixth career shutout.
The RiverHawks return home Saturday and will host Southwestern Oklahoma at 5 p.m.
