SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –
Flynn Semmerling took sole control of fifth place in NSU career goals as the RiverHawks held off Drury 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Springfield.
The fifth-year senior has found the net in both of NSU's matches this season and now has 35 on his career.
Semmerling was involved in all of NSU's scoring and had a cross pass to
Davi Dornelles in the 11th minute. He later caught a crossover pass from
Ryan McCully in the 25th minute while in front of the goal for the RiverHawks' second tally of the half.
The Panthers (1-1) would notch a goal back in the 66th minute and threatened late with a shot from ten yards out in the final five seconds that sailed above the top crossbar.
Shots on-goal were even at five, with the Panthers having a 7-to-4 advantage on corners.
Miguel Torres had two shots on-goal to lead NSU.
Niklas Kirhoff had three saves and earned the win at keeper.
Northeastern State improves to 1-1 on the year, with the win being the first since 1998 in Springfield. Before the match Sunday, Drury had shut out NSU in four consecutive matches at home.
The RiverHawks will head next to Texas Wednesday to face Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m.
