ARKADELPHIA, Ark — No. 16 Northeastern State scored three times in the first half and blanked Ouachita Baptist, 3-nil, Saturday afternoon.
The shutout is the third consecutive for the RiverHawks, who improve to 2-0 in GAC/MIAA play (4-1-1 overall) and the ninth straight win for NSU over the Tigers.
Miguel Torres scored his second career goal in just the third minute of the contest to get things set the right way for NSU.
The RiverHawks' following goals came off penalty kicks, with
Ryan McCully kicking in his third of the season in the 32nd minute.
Giani Mascarel had the team's third goal of the half in the 41st minute.
NSU had 20 players get playing time Saturday and launched 25 shots at OBU's defense. Ouachita was limited to seven on the day as they fell to 0-6-2 (0-2 GAC/MIAA).
Niklas Kirhoff had three saves and earned the shutout.
Northeastern State will return to action Saturday, Sept. 24, where they will host Rogers State for their home opener at 7 p.m.
