WICHITA, Kan. –
Luan Lamas had two goals and an assist as No. 16 Northeastern State rocketed past Newman 4-0 on Thursday evening.
The RiverHawks' offense went on a tear in the second half with a trio of goals in just 1:54. Northeastern State cracked the NCAA Division II record books as the fourth fastest three consecutive goals by the same team.
A sliding tackle from
Giani Mascarel from the Newman defense knocked the ball to
Flynn Semmerling, who launched a shot to the top right of the goal to send NSU up 2-0 at the 55:38 mark.
About 90 seconds later, Lamas launched a free kick from near midfield for a goal at the 56:54 mark. He would find the goal again on a cross pass to send NSU up 4-0 just 36 seconds later.
Lamas would also be credited with an assist on a header late in the first half off a corner kick.
Semmerling set the Northeastern State NCAA era mark with his 39th goal passing Sergio Salinas, who has held the record since 2004.
Northeastern State's defense overwhelmed the Jets Thursday evening, and they could not take a shot until the 54th minute. Newman (0-9-1, 0-4 GAC/MIAA) would only have one shot on goal Thursday.
The RiverHawks earned their fourth shutout as they improved to 5-1-2 (3-0-1 GAC/MIAA). NSU will head to Fort Hays Saturday to close out the weekend trip in Kansas.
