Late goal lifts RiverHawks win

TAHLEQUAH – Alexis Rodgers netted her first career goal in the final four minutes Friday evening to break up a scoreless match and gave Northeastern State a 1-nil victory over Missouri Southern.

The win is the first for the RiverHawks since Sept. 5, with five of their previous six matches ending in a draw and the second consecutive shutout over the Lions.

Northeastern State landed plenty of attacks, with Southern's keeper stopping six shots before Rodgers found the goal in the 87th minute off a blocked shot attempt.

Missouri Southern (1-9, 1-3 MIAA) had four shots on goal, with Ainsley Cunningham earning her fourth shutout of the season in six starts.

The RiverHawks held a 20-to-15 shot advantage, with Southern holding the edge on corners, 6-to-5.

Northeastern State improves to 4-1-6 (1-1-2 MIAA) and will host Central Missouri this Sunday at 1 p.m.
