TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State landed three goals in seven minutes around the intermission as they dominated Nebraska-Kearney 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The RiverHawks' offense clicked on all cylinders and bombarded the Lopers with 32 shots, their most since the 2019 season, and 16 corner kicks one shy of matching a mark last set on Sept. 8, 1999 at Missouri Southern.
With four matches remaining in the regular season, NSU (4-6-4, 2-4-1 MIAA) earned three critical points in the MIAA standings and is tied for seventh place with Central Oklahoma. Five points separate four through tenth in the association standings with the top four earning a hosting slot in the tournament opening round. The top eight teams in the regular season standings earn a postseason ticket.
Northeastern State earned their third consecutive shutout of the Lopers and remains perfect at home in five UNK visits. Nebraska-Kearney (2-10-2, 1-3-2 MIAA) did not have a starter connect on a shot with just one being on goal Sunday.
The Lopers held NSU scoreless through the first 44 minutes before they were called for a handball inside of the box allowing
Sydney Taylor to connect on a penalty kick.
Josie Jarvis kept the momentum going in the second half scoring in the 49th minute and hitting her second of the game just 77 seconds later off a deflection from the UNK goalkeeper.
Taylor added one more for NSU in the 73rd minute connecting off a free kick that sailed to the far right of the UNK goal.
Rebecca Partyka earned her fifth shutout of the year in her quiet afternoon where the Lopers were on the attacking end for 11 percent of the match.
Northeastern State remains at home and will host Northwest Missouri this Friday at 7 p.m.
