WICHITA, Kan. - Northeastern State clinched an MIAA Postseason berth Friday evening with a 3-0 win at Newman. The berth is the 11th consecutive for the RiverHawks (6-7-4, 4-5-1 MIAA) and the third straight shutout of the Jets (2-14-1, 1-9-0 MIAA).
A Rogers State 2-1 loss at Central Oklahoma punched the RiverHawks a spot in the MIAA Tournament. Northeastern State's seed in the postseason field has yet to be determined with the squad tied with Missouri Western for sixth place.Â
Josie Jarvis scored first for the RiverHawks in the 19th minute with her fourth goal of the year. She would be a factor again in the 33rd minute when Jarvis connected with
Whitney Gentry for her second consecutive match with a goal. Gentry made it a brace with a 72nd-minute conversion to drive the RiverHawks to a three-goal lead.
The NSU defense held strong in the shutout win, holding the Jets to just three shots while taking 14 of their own. Eight of NSU's tries were on-target, while
Rebecca Partyka was in front of both of NU's on-goal shots.Â
The RiverHawks close out the regular season Sunday at Rogers State for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
