ARKADELPHIA, Ark.--
Courtney Lee logged 17 points as Northeastern State (3-2) fell in their first road contest of the season to Henderson State (3-1) in a 69-56 setback at the Duke Wells Center Monday night.
After opening up the game on a 15-7 scoring run that lasted most of the first quarter, the RiverHawks struggled to further their hot start on both ends of the floor. Over the second and third periods, NSU mustered a 6-of-29 (20.7%) shooting clip, while HSU converted nearly half their tries (12-of-25, 48.0%) across that same period.Â
Facing a 51-40 hole entering the fourth, NSU found enough offense to bring the deficit back to single digits multiple times over the closing stanza, taking the HSU advantage down to as few as six with 2:06 remaining. Despite NSU's pursuit, four Henderson State free throws and a three-point basket allowed the Reddies to slam the door on the RiverHawks to take the win.Â
Lee's 17 came on six-of-nine shooting, while the junior's nine rebounds highlighted NSU's efforts on the glass.
Halie Jones hit double figures for the fifth time in as many games this season with ten points, while
Aubrey Brown provided ten points in 24 minutes of work.
Northeastern State returns to the court Thursday, Nov. 30 for their MIAA opener against Fort Hays State in the NSU Event Center at 5:30 p.m.
