Late errors costly for RiverHawks

PRYOR – Northeastern State surrendered seven unearned runs as East Central rallied twice in the final two innings to beat the RiverHawks 17-15 on Friday evening.

The RiverHawks committed five errors, four of each in the final two innings.

Brayden Rodden, Coby Tweten, and C.D. White all homered for NSU, with Rodden having a three-hit game. DeClaudio Irvin and White both had three RBI.

Northeastern State led 10-7 in the eighth, where the Tigers sent 13 batters to the plate to pour in seven runs on the RiverHawks on four hits.   NSU countered with five in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead. East Central walked in two runs, and a wild pitch got the RiverHawks back within one before Kademon Graff doubled in the go-ahead run.

In the ninth, East Central managed to get two runners on with two outs before NSU committed an infield error allowing the Tigers to retake the lead. A balk with a runner on third gave ECU an extra insurance run.

The RiverHawks outhit the Tigers 13-12, with its pitching staff striking out 19 ECU batters. Seth Stacey stuck out 11 in five innings of work in the no-decision.

East Central moves to 2-2 on the year, while the RiverHawks fall to 1-3. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Pryor High School's field.
