RiverHawks win two at the Alvy Early Classic

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Northeastern State belted three homers in each of their two wins Saturday as they held off William Jewell 6-5 and shutout Southwest Baptist 4-0 at the Alvy Early Classic.

Chloe Bohuslavicky homered in both contests to bring her season total up to four.  Madison Heinle spun a three-inning save and struck out eight against William Jewell.  She was later credited with the win in the nightcap with seven strikeouts in five innings.

In the opener against William Jewell, NSU scored five unanswered runs.   Bohuslavicky hit a two-run bomb in the first.  Baylea Smith hit her second homer of the season in the second, plating two, and Addy Wolfe smashed a solo shot in the same frame.

The Cardinals (0-2) tallied a run in the third and tied the game in the fourth.  Wolfe responded a frame later with the eventual game-winning RBI double, scoring Smith in from second.

Lizzy Hall (1-0) earned the win in relief, recording one out in the fourth.

The nightcap was all longball for NSU; Bohuslavicky and Alexa Almejo hit solo shots in the second, then Raegan Edwards hit a two-run bomb in the third.   Those were the only hits of the game for NSU, and all Heinle needed for her second win of the season.  Hall spun two scoreless frames to share the shutout with Heinle.

Southwest Baptist (0-2) left seven batters on base in the loss.

Northeastern State improves to 3-3 on the year; they will return to Bentonville Sunday to face Truman State at 11 a.m. and close the weekend out with Drury at 1:30 p.m.
