Baseball falls in extras

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State rallied late and tied a game on a pitch-hit grand slam homer from Drew Miller, but William Jewell spoiled the RiverHawks' day in the tenth, winning 8-7.

The Cardinals got a full count hit by pitch with one out in the tenth, and their next batter launched a no-doubt homer to left field for the eventual game-winner.

C.D. White pulled NSU back within one opening the bottom half of the frame with a solo shot that went under the right field scoreboard.  NSU's next batter drew a five-pitch walk but would be picked off for the second out of the inning.  Ty Van Meter nearly tied the game on their last out, just missing a home run with William Jewell catching the ball at the wall.

William Jewell (1-1) had 12 hits, with its leadoff hitter Jake Wilcox having a pair of homers and the game-winner in the tenth.

Lee Callison went 99 pitches and four innings as NSU's starter, CJ Briley, tossed three innings of scoreless relief.

Northeastern State (4-5) will close the series with the Cardinals on Sunday at noon.
