TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State took care of business Saturday and swept Ouachita Baptist 7-0 in the RiverHawks' season opener.
The RiverHawks edged Ouachita Baptist in doubles 2-1 for the early point dropping a 7-5 result in 2s but won 7-5 on the main court.
In singles,
Valeria Teran made her NSU debut with a straight-set sweep on court six.
Alisha Moldakhmetova dropped just one game on court three, and
Emilia Cosatto won her match 6-2, 6-0 at the top singles slot.
Ouachita Baptist falls to 2-2 overall with its 16th consecutive loss to NSU.
"Obviously, any time you can start the season off with a 7-0 win, that's a good day," said head coach
Tim McLane. "We got off to a little bit of a slow start, partly because of nerves and partly because Ouachita competed really well and made us work, but we really got things rolling as we moved into singles, especially closing out some of those first sets, and we were able to carry that through the rest if the match."
"We'll enjoy this one for a little bit, and then we have a tough test tomorrow with a short turnaround."
Northeastern State returns to the courts at noon Sunday to host Southeastern Oklahoma.
