TOPEKA, Kan. – The RiverHawks charged late to beat the weather and Washburn 4-2 in ten innings Saturday afternoon.
Northeastern State (10-9, 4-4 MIAA) snapped a 13 game Washburn winning streak with
Brady Evans and
C.D. White having a pair of hits. White had two RBI and tied the game at 2-2 in the eighth with a single through the right side.
The game moved to extra innings which proved to be very exciting. Evans was able to get on first, followed by a steal for second that was then followed by a wild pitch putting him in a perfect scoring position. With Evans on third White walked, putting runners on first and third.
Brayden Rodden came up to bat, singling to right center helping White advance to third and a score from Evans.
Matt Kaiser hit a single and moved to second with an error by Washburn's shortstop, both advancing Rodden to third and White scoring yet again solidifying the win for the RiverHawks.
Lee Callison had a strong run allowing only two hits and no earned runs through seven innings.
Kyle Duffey tossed a clean ninth to earn the RiverHawks their win and
Cole White claimed his second save of the year.
Washburn (14-8, 7-1 MIAA) was limited to four hits, two of those coming in the opening inning.
Both teams will wrap up the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
